Balansenerven, betennelse: Prognose

Prognosen er god, og de fleste får tilbake normal balanse. Oftest tar det bare dager eller få uker før svimmelheten er over, men i de verste tilfellene kan man ha svimmelhetsplager i flere måneder. Omtrent halvparten har vedvarende mildere restplager, som at de blir lettere svimmel ved brå bevegelser, ev. redusert balanse i mørke, eller en følelse av at underlaget kan gynge. Disse plagene er vanligvis ikke for sjenerende så lenge man vet at det er normale restplager.

Vestibulær rehabilitering bidrar til å redusere risiko for langvarige plager, og er også effektivt dersom plagene har blitt langvarige.  

Tilbakefall er sjelden, men kan forekomme på motsatt øre.
