Spinal stenoseSpinal stenose

Diagnosen bygger på sykehistorien din, og de funn legen gjør. Ved den vanlige kroppsundersøkelsen finner legen sjelden noe unormalt i rygg eller ekstremiteter. Det påvises sjelden tegn til nerveskader. Noen utvikler plager som minner om røykeben, men uten å ha tegn til dårlig blodtilførsel (som er årsaken til røykebein).

Dersom plagene er så uttalte at det vurderes å kunne være behov for behandling, er det aktuelt å utrede med MR eller CT for å bedømme plassforholdene i ryggkanalen (spinalkanalen) og rundt nerverøttene som kommer ut fra ryggmargen.

Tilstanden har mye til felles med åreforkalkning av blodårene i bena. Begge tilstandene vil ofte gi smerter i bena ved gange, smerter som tvinger deg til å stoppe opp når du er ute og går.
