Vorter: Årsaker

Vorter skyldes en virusinfeksjon i huden. Infeksjonen fører til at tykkelsen og grovheten på huden øker der viruset befinner seg. Vorteviruset tilhører gruppen papilloma-virus (Humant Papillomavirus, HPV), og det finnes mer enn 150 forskjellige varianter av dette viruset.

Vorter smitter ved direkte kontakt eller indirekte via gjenstander. Det er vanlig at man smitter seg selv, slik at man overfører vorteviruset fra et sted til et annet. Dette skjer for eksempel ved neglebiting der man kan få sår under neglen med senere utvikling av vorte i såret. Vorter kan også spres til andre gjennom deling av håndkle, barbersaker, negleklipper. Fotvorter kan du få ved å gå barfot på offentlige steder hvor andre mennesker også går barfotet, som for eksempel i svømmehaller og garderober.
