Korsbåndskade, fremre: Diagnosen

Skaden er oftest så tydelig at enkle undersøkelser kan avsløre tilstanden. Men kneundersøkelse kan være vanskelig eller umulig å utføre i akuttfasen, på grunn av de store smertene og hevelse i kneleddet. Det vil da være aktuelt å gjenta undersøkelsen etter noen dager eller uker.

Røntgen er som regel den første bildeundersøkelsen og gjøres for å utelukke bruddskade eller avrivning av beinfragmenter. For bekreftelse av diagnosen og for utredning av skadeomfanget kan MR-undersøkelse av kneet gjennomføres. Undersøkelsen er spesielt aktuell dersom kirurgisk behandling vurderes. Overrivning av korsbånd vil oftest framgå tydelig av MR-bilder, og man kan også i mange tilfeller påvise eventuelle forandringer i sideleddbåndene og/eller meniskene.

Artroskopi er en undersøkelse der man ser inn i kneleddet via et endoskop som føres inn i kneet. Undersøkelsen utføres vanligvis som dagkirurgi. Om artroskopi skal utføres, vil dette bli gjort på sykehus eller i spesialistpraksis.  

Siden det i over halvparten av tilfellene foreligger også andre skader i kneet, er det viktig at disse skadene blir diagnostisert og tatt med i vurderingen av behandling.
