Panikkangst, symptomer og tegn: Diagnosen

Ofte er sykehistorien så typisk at legen stiller diagnosen uten å ta andre tester. Særlig ved nyoppstått sykdom kan det være nødvendig å ta blodprøver, kontrollerer hjertet, ta EKG. og lignende. Dette er prøver som kan utelukke utelukke andre sykdommer som forklaring på symptomene. Legen vil spørre deg om du er bekymret for å få nye anfall, fordi dette er et av hovedtrekkene ved tilstanden. Dersom legen ikke finner noe galt med prøvene styrker dette mistanken om at symptomene skyldes panikklidelse.

Uten behandling kan panikklidelsen bli gradvis verre. Diagnosen gjør det stadig vanskeligere å gjøre hverdagslige ting som å handle. Du kan utvikle agorafobi - en tilstand der du er redd for situasjoner hvor det er vanskelig å stikke seg vekk eller rømme. I slike tilfeller kan angst for angsten skape en ond spiral, og man opplever å bli engstelig i stadig flere situasjoner.

Tilstanden kan for mange pasienter være nærmest invalidiserende, med hyppige sykefravær og stadige innleggelser eller nye undersøkelser.
