Atopisk eksem, utredning: Andre undersøkelser
Vanligvis er videre undersøkelse ikke nødvendig. I tilfeller der det er mistanke om at det har tilkommet en infeksjon i eksemet, kan det være aktuelt å ta prøve av eksemet med en bomullspinne for å eventuelt påvise bakterier, virus eller sopp. Det gjøres når det er avgjørende for valg av behandling.
Ved uttalte plager og dårlig effekt av behandlingen og ved mistanke om allergi er det vanlig å bli henvist til en spesialist, som regel en barnelege eller en hudlege. Disse kan gjøre flere tester for å finne ut om det er allergi som ligger til grunn for eksemet, og hvilke stoffer du reagerer på. Den viktigste testen er kontrollerte kostforsøk. Blodprøver, prikktest eller lappetest kan være aktuelt, men er ikke tilstrekkelig for å stille en allergidiagnose.
Hos barn med mistenkt matvareallergi, bør det gjøres undersøkelser hos spesialist før man forsøker å kutte ut enkelte matvarer fra kosten. Årsaken er at barn er meget utsatt for mangelsykdommer, og de behøver et allsidig og sammensatt kosthold. Det er viktig å merke seg at de fleste barn med atopisk eksem ikke har matvareallergier.
Som ledd i utredningen vil det være nyttig om du/dere går gjennom en sjekkliste over kost og symptomer (liste for barn, liste for voksne) eller fører dagbok over sammenhengen mellom kost og symptomer.
