Slagbehandling - pasientens og pårørendes rolle

Slagrehabilitering er teamarbeid., men det er slagpasienten selv som har det avgjørende ordet når viktige beslutninger skal tas.

Pasientens rolle

Dette kan være et vanskelig tema for mange slagpasienter. Noen ganger kan det være fristende å lene seg bakover og overlate til behandlingsteamet å ta ledelsen. Det kan være behov for ekstra tid, og noen har vansker med å snakke. I slike situasjoner skjer det ofte at andre tar ledelsen og fatter beslutninger på pasientens vegne. Prøv å unngå at det hender.

Man bør forsikre seg om at alle forstår at det er ønskelig å delta når det tas beslutninger om egen behandling. Kom frem med spørsmål og bekymringer. Uttrykk egne ønsker og meninger om saker som angår deg. Si fra hvis noen "snakker ovenfra og ned" til deg, eller hvis du blir oversett. Husk også at alle pasienter har rett til å se sin egen journal.

For å være deltaker i egen behandling må man være godt informert om behandlingen og om hvordan helsesituasjonen egentlig er. Det kan være nyttig å notere ned viktig informasjon om behandling og fremgang, og skrive ned spørsmål som dukker opp.

Mange har språk- eller talevansker etter slag. Det kan da være vanskelig å gjøre egne ønsker kjent. Kanskje kan logopeden bidra med å få meddelt dine tanker til teamet. Det samme kan gjelde familiemedlemmer som kjenner deg godt.

De fleste opplever at rehabilitering er hardt arbeid. De må jobbe med å opprettholde ferdigheter samtidig som de må jobbe med å gjenvinne tapte ferdigheter. Det er normalt til tider å føle seg sliten og nedstemt fordi ting som tidligere var enkle å utføre, nå er blitt vanskelige. Da er det viktig å minne seg selv på hvilken framgang som tross alt skjer, og være stolt av egne framskritt.
