HPV-infeksjon: Kan HPV forebygges?
Det er vist at HPV-infeksjon på livmorhalsen forekommer hyppigere hos kvinner som har hatt mange seksualpartnere og som ikke har brukt kondom. Infeksjonen varer også lenger, med større risiko for celleforandringer, hos dem som røyker. Her ligger det altså en mulighet for forebygging.
Alle jenter og gutter i 7. klasse tilbys vaksine mot HPV infeksjon gjennom Barnevaksinasjonsprogrammet. Vaksinen beskytter mot HPV-typene 16 og 18, som forårsaker de fleste (over 70 prosent) av tilfellene av livmorhalskreft. Vaksinen som benyttes i programmet, beskytter ikke mot kjønnsvorter (HPV type 6 og 11). Forskning har imidlertid vist at de vaksinerte kan utvikle en beskyttelse også mot andre HPV-typer enn det vaksinen har inneholdt, det kalles kryssbeskyttelse. Les mer her: HPV-vaksine
