Hundebitt

Hundebitt kan gi stygge skader og noen ganger svært alvorlige infeksjoner. Såret bør umiddelbart rengjøres, og terskelen for å søke lege bør være lav.

Hundebitt er et verdensomspennende problem og rammer spesielt barn. Hvert år søker tusenvis av mennesker medisinsk hjelp etter å ha blitt bitt av hund. Noen tilfeller er så alvorlige at pasienten må henvises til sykehus for behandling.

Det er anslått at omlag 5000 legebesøk årlig skyldes hundebitt. Internasjonalt regner man med at dyrebitt forårsaker rundt 1 % av alle legevaktbesøk. I Norge føres det ingen nasjonal statistikk over hundebitt.

Dødsfall på grunn av hundebitt er sjeldne, men forekommer og over halvparten skjer hos barn under 10 år. Skade på den store halspulsåren er hovedårsak til dødsfall blant barn etter hundebitt.
