Parvovirusinfeksjon: Smitte

Virus overføres ved dråpesmitte (luftsmitte), blodsmitte eller direkte fra gravid til foster. Smitterisikoen er cirka 50 prosent for dem som lever sammen med infiserte personer, og cirka 20-30 prosent blant dem som deler av dagen er utsatt for infiserte barn (lærere, dagmammaer). Inkubasjonstiden varierer fra 4-14 dager, men den kan være så lang som 21 dager. Sykdommen smitter ikke lenger når utslettet kommer, fordi det da har dannet seg antistoffer.
