Laparoskopisk fundoplikasjon: Forundersøkelser
Operasjon er ikke noe man tyr til med en gang ved gastroøsofageal reflukssykdom. Det er kun aktuelt for pasienter med betydelige plager, og der medikamentell behandling ikke hjelper godt nok (etter minst ett år). Man vil noen ganger vurdere inngrepet for yngre mennesker som eventuelt vil ha et langt liv foran seg med disse plagene og med vedvarende medikamentbruk.
Forut for operasjon gjøres gastroskopi, det vil si man inspiserer nedre del av spiserøret for å se etter betennelsesforandringer (øsofagitt), tegn til sår eller om det foreligger andre forandringer. Det foretas også 24 timers pH-måling. Det er en undersøkelse der et tynt kateter føres ned i spiserøret via nesen. Tippen på kateteret vil befinne seg nederst i spiserøret, og den inneholder et instrument (en elektrode) som registerer surhetsgraden (pH) i denne delen av spiserøret. En melding om surhetsgraden sendes jevnlig til en liten datamaskin som du bærer på deg i den 24-timers perioden undersøkelsen varer. Ved hjelp av 24 timers pH-måling vil man få klarlagt grad og omfang av syrelekkasje til spiserøret. Enkelte varianter av utstyret som benyttes utfører også trykkmålinger.
