Baker cyste: Behandling

De fleste cyster oppdages tilfeldig, og det er ingen grunn til behandling hvis pasienten er uten symptomer. Heller ikke cyster hos barn vil vanligvis behøve behandling. Hos voksne rettes behandlingen mot den underliggende årsaken (betennelse, slitasjen) til cysten. Dersom det er økt mengde leddvæske i kneleddet, vil det være gunstig også for Baker cysten å tappe ut leddvæske oftest ultralydveiledet og med påfølgende kortisoninjeksjon. Store og plagsomme cyster må en sjelden gang fjernes ved operasjon.

Dersom cysten sprekker, bør beina heves og komprimerende bind/trykkbandasje eller støttestrømper benyttes.
