Diabetes og magekomplikasjoner: Forandringer i spiserøret
Unormale sammentrekninger (peristaltikk) i spiserøret og svekket lukkemuskel på overgangen mellom spiserøret og magesekken kan føre til plager i form av brystbrann og svelgevansker (refluksplager). Slike symptomer oppstår imidlertid kun hos en minoritet av pasienter med diabetes. Andre mulige faktorer som bidrar til refluksplager ved diabetes, er fedme, høyt blodsukker og nedsatt utskillelse av bikarbonat (som nøytraliserer syre) fra spyttkjertlene.
Behandlingen består i god blodsukkerkontroll og medikamenter mot refluks.
