Symptomer og tegn
Plagene starter i forbindelse med en mistenkt eller bekreftet covid-19 infeksjon. Det beskrives forløp med svingende grad av symptomer, symptomer som kommer og går eller vedvarende symptomer. I internasjonale data er det funnet at det for de fleste med long covid, tar mer enn 35 uker å bli helt bra.
Vanlige symptomer er tretthet, hodepine, vansker med konsentrasjon og hukommelse, hårtap, tungpust, økt slapphet etter anstrengelser. Redusert eller fraværende luktesans og søvnproblemer er heller ikke uvanlig. Andre symptomer som rapporteres, er blant andre hoste, brystsmerter, ledd- og muskelsmerter, vekttap, mage-/tarmplager, hudforandringer, angst, tinnitus, øresmerter, nummenhet og/eller stikninger og prikninger i huden, redusert livskvalitet.
Det er sett en tendens til at personer som har vært innlagt på sykehus i forbindelse med infeksjonen, får flere langvarige symptomer enn de som ikke har vært innlagt, og at forkomsten av angst og depresjon etter infeksjonen er økt hos disse.
