Bakteriell vaginose: Prognose
Tilbakefall er svært vanlig både hos de som har fått behandling og hos de som er blitt bra av seg selv. Man blir ofte bra uten behandling, og det anses fornuftig å avvente utviklingen dersom plagene ikke er for uttalte. Når plagene er for uttalte, for eksempel på grunn av lukt, kløe eller ubehag, gis en kur. Behandlingen har som regel svært rask virkning, men gjentatte kurer kan bli nødvendig.

Bakteriell vaginose er funnet å ha en sammenheng med økt risiko for seksuelt overførte infeksjoner som klamydiainfeksjon, gonoré, genital herpesvirus infeksjon og HPV infeksjon.
