Blodpropp i graviditeten: Årsak

Blodkarskade, infeksjon og vevsskade kombinert med økt blodlevringstendens og forstyrrelse av blodstrømmen, setter i gang prosessen som ender med dyp venetrombose. I svangerskapet vil den gravide livmoren kunne trykke på blodårene i buken og medføre nedsatt blodstrøm. I tillegg fører hormonforandringene til at blodet levrer seg lettere hos gravide enn hos kvinner utenom graviditet.

Embolier kan oppstå hvis biter av en blodpropp løsner, følger blodstrømmen og fester seg i en mindre blodåre.

Risiko for blodpropp i svangerskapet øker med alder (> 35 år), fedme (KMI > 30), antall tidligere barn og familiær forekomst av blodproppsykdom. Svangerskapet er i seg selv en risikofaktor for utvikling av blodpropp. Tilleggsfaktorer som øker faren, er røyking, keisersnitt, sengeleie og overvekt/fedme. Arvelige forstyrrelser i blodlevringssystemet (trombofilier) gir markant økning i risikoen for blodpropp.
