Trombocytose: Prognose

Leveutsiktene ved sekundær trombocytose avhenger av hvilken sykdom som utløser økningen i blodplater, trombocytosen gir i seg selv ingen følgetilstander. Ved essensiell trombocytose kan det oppstå alvorlige følgetilstander som blødning, blodpropp, nedsatt blodomløp i hender og føtter, hjerneslag, men vanligvis er leveutsiktene tilnærmet normale.
