Diagnosen stilles på grunnlag av den typiske sykehistorien og funnene ved legeundersøkelsen av hånden og armen. Diagnosen kan bekreftes med såkalt nevrografi, det vil si måling av nerveledningshastighet. Dersom diagnosen er rimelig sikker ut fra symptomer og funn, er det ikke nødvendig å gjøre nevrografi.
