Prestasjonsfrem. midler og idrett: Karbohydrat-elektrolytt blandinger

Erstatning av væsketap under fysisk aktivitet med drikker som inneholder karbohydrater og elektrolytter, er vist å bedre prestasjonen. Blant annet i fotball fant man i en studie at den totale løpedistansen ble økt og spillerne orket flere spurter i andreomgangen etter inntak av en slik blanding9.

For å optimalisere prestasjonene bør idrettsutøverne erstatte væsketap som følge av anstrengelser med periodisk inntak under aktivitet. Den beste konsentrasjonen av karbohydrater i disse drikkene er 5-7% fordi lavere innhold ikke fremmer prestasjonen og høyere konsentrasjoner kan gi mageplager som følge av forsinket tømning av magesekken9.
