Fødselsskade, lukkemuskel: Prognose
Med riktig behandling utført umiddelbart etter fødselen er prognosen god. De fleste får små eller ingen problemer. Ved utilfredsstillende behandling eller ved skade som ikke blir oppdaget ved fødselen, vil en betydelig andel av kvinnene få kroniske plager som følge av svekket lukkemuskel - særlig i form av vansker med å holde på luft. Siden aldring kan svekke lukkemuskel-funksjonen ytterligere, kan disse kvinnene tenkes å få et større problem med tiden.
