Forebygging

Den mest effektive måten å håndtere akuttmedisinske tilstander ombord i fly på, er å unngå dem. Risikoen for besvimelse øker som følge av dehydrering på grunn av lav luftfuktighet, trykkendringer, utmattelse. Reisende bør derfor sørge for å drikke ofte og spise de måltid som serveres + snacks - særlig ved langvarige flyturer.

Pasienter med kroniske sykdommer bør informeres om risikoer og tiltak. F.eks. bør pasienter med diabetes bringe med seg blodsukkermåler, glukose tilskudd og diabetesmedisiner. Pasienter med pustevansker på landjorda trenger å ha portabelt oksygen for reisen. Dette må avklares med flyselskapet på forhånd. 

Dersom passasjeren nylig har gjennomgått akutte eller andre spesifikke medisinske tilstander, må pasienten informeres om eventuelle forbehold om flyreiser.
