Malaria: Prognose

Ved godartet malaria er prognosen god. Prognosen er også generelt god ved rask og riktig behandling uansett malariatype.

Den hissige malariaformen kan imidlertid medføre komplikasjoner og ha et alvorlig forløp. Komplikasjoner kan være alvorlig blodmangel, nyresvikt, leverskade eller hjerneskade. Dersom den alvorlige malariaformen (falciparum) ikke behandles, kan den få et dødelig utfall. Utvikler du feber eller frysninger etter opphold i tropiske strøk hvor det finnes malaria så kontakt lege tidlig. Husk å gi beskjed om hvor du har vært. Når leger får mistanke om at en pasient kan være smittet med malaria, fører dette alltid til rask innleggelse i sykehus.
