Komplikasjoner

  • Nevrologiske
    • Pareser i underekstremiteter
    • Hydrocefalus
    • Epilepsi
  • Hud og vev
    • Trykksår
    • Sirkulasjonsforstyrrelser: dyp venetrombose, amputasjon
  • Ortopediske feilstillinger
    • Deformiteter i underekstremitetene
    • Skoliose
    • Hofteluksasjon
  • Urologiske
    • Blæreparese og blæredysfunksjon
    • Inkontinens
    • Residiverende urinveisinfeksjoner, pyelonefritter, nedsatt nyrefunksjon
  • Tarm
    • 80-90 % har en nevrogen tarmforstyrrelse
    • Lammelser omfatter både tarmveggen og endetarmens lukkemuskel
  • Hjerte og lunger
    • Forhold knyttet til hjerte-lungefunksjonen er en vanlig dødsårsak hos voksne, særlig hos dem med torakalt eller høyt lumbalt brokk
      • Årsaken er mest sannsynlig hjerte-lungesvikt som følge av langtidsvirkninger av kyfoskoliose
  • Død
    • Vanligste dødsårsak er nyresvikt sekundært til residiverende pyelonefritter33

Prognose

  • Ved spina bifida occulta er prognosen god, mange har få eller ingen symptomer
  • Overlevelse ryggmargsbrokk
    • Både kort- og langtidsoverlevelsen har økt som følge av fremskritt i medisinsk og kirurgisk behandling
    • De aller fleste overlever opp til voksen alder2
    • Dødeligheten er fortsatt økt sammenlignet med normalbefolkningen19
  • De fleste har kognitive utfordringer, og ca. 20% har lavt evnenivå2
  • Pasienter med ryggmargsbrokk har økt morbiditet og mortalitet gjennom hele ungdomstiden og senere i livet29-30
