Å leve med polycytemia vera

Personer som har fått polycytemia vera, kan ikke helbredes, men mange lever svært lenge med sykdommen. Det er ofte eldre mennesker som får sykdommen, og det betyr at de ofte ikke dør av, men med sykdommen. Sykdommen kan ha plagsomme symptomer som intens kløe og behandlingen kan ha bivirkninger. Dette kan gjøre det vanskelig både å få sove samt å fungere i dagliglivet. Det er imidlertid funnet nyere behandlingsformer som kan ha god effekt.
